Welcome to the
Freestyle Foiling Supply List!

I have created this page for you to help gather supplies you need for the course. If you shop on Amazon, I compiled an Idea List so you can see all the things you want to buy in one page!

I recommend reading through all the list here first. Then, when you're ready to purchase from Amazon, click this button below to head to my compiled list!
HOT TOOLS
Walnut Hollow
Wood Burner Kit
This is a more versatile and powerful tool as it is a wood burner. If you plan on doing foiling for a long period of time, this will provide more consistent heat compared to the freestyle pens.

I find that the angled tip works the best as it allows the tool to be held at a lower angle which will be more comfortable for your wrist.

NOTE: With the way it is designed, you can't hold it close to the tip as you would hold a pen so the grip will take some getting used to.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE PURCHASING
The freestyle pens by Foil Quill are USB-powered so you're going to need either a battery pack or a USB outlet. To see the USB outlets that I recommend, find it under Helpful Tools down below.
The wood burner plugs into a wall outlet so you would need to set up your workspace near a power outlet or have an extension cable.

If you plan on foiling occasionally and mostly on cardstock and leather, I would recommend the freestyle pens as they are very user-friendly and they hold like regular pens making it more comfortable on the wrist.

If you live near Michael's or JoAnn's, they take coupons on these pens and all the foil accessories so you can check their website and see if they have them in stock!
IMPORTANT: There are Foil Quill Heat Pens and Foil Quill Freestyle Pens. Make sure to get the ones that say FREESTYLE because the Heat Pens can only be used with an electronic cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette.

If you plan on offering foiling service onsite where you would be foiling nonstop for more than one hour, the woodburning tool will provide more consistent heat than the freestyle pens as the Foil Quill pens would need to heat back up after a period of constant use which could affect the transferability of the foil.
FOILS
Not all foil works for this type of foiling! These are the ones that I find work best with the tools that I have. Although, in my experience, I find that the foil rolls are more consistent than the Foil Quill sheets.
SURFACES
You can foil on almost anything that accepts heat and pressure. These are just some surfaces to get you started!
NOTE on leather:
Some leather is treated with a fire-retardant coating which will prevent the foil to transfer on the surface. I have tried foiling on the black, blue, red, and brown luggage tags from Amazon and I find that the foil will transfer on the black and blue tags but NOT on the red and brown.

However, I find that acetone removes the coating which will allow the foil to transfer smoothly!
HELPFUL TOOLS
These are some tools that would help your foiling process easier!
READY TO PURCHASE?
I recommend checking your local Michael's or JoAnn's first before shopping on Amazon as they sometimes have discounts on the Foil Quill brands.

If you don't live near those stores, then click here to go to my Amazon Idea List where you can add the items you want to your shopping cart from one page.
